Rosie North (Hoyle)

I make artwork because I have always done so, it is part of my life, the desire to make marks in numerous ways is permanently woven into my life. I enjoy the fun of experimenting with textiles, acrylics and oils, watercolour and other media, sometimes just one medium, but often several.

A passion for the philosophy underpinning Traditional Chinese medicine was the bedrock of my profession as a practitioner of Complementary Medicine. It involved being ‘Mindful’. My artwork inspired by this, aims to convey the essence, mood and energy of life itself. I am fascinated by the passage of the seasons, how life changes, evolves and grows. Experimenting with combinations of textiles and painting materials explores how life evolves and develops. The elemental works of Turner and the early Surrealists with their fascination with the unconscious mind, echoes my own interest and passion. My artwork is intended to echo the feel of the world, combining the intense tactile nature of textiles with paints, paper, colours or threads.
