Mary Walker
Painter and tutor working in Watercolour and Oils using pigments on gessoed wood and canvas
Himalayan art, simplicity of brush strokes and the action of painting as perfected by Asian painters has always been an inspiration.
From 1984-92 I studied Thangka Painting in France and helped to direct the painting of frescos of a 3 story Himalayan temple in Burgundy.
After working and exhibiting in France for several years I returned to England to study a MAFA and PGCE and taught in Further Education, Art Therapy and Stroke Recovery at The Countess of Chester Hospital and received the Chester Municipal Charities Award in Teaching in 2009.
The Minimalism of Brice Marden’s work and the Himalayan Artist and calligrapher, Tashi Mannox also influence my work.
I currently teach Traditional Watercolour and Oriental Brush Painting in Chester and on-line.
