Gillian Ellison
Media or specialism: painting, print and ceramics
Surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Cheshire, North Wales and the Wirral, Gill’s interests are firmly founded in the natural world.
Her impressionistic style emphasises atmospheric light and colour and she has recently produced a series of paintings based on observations of the Welsh and Wirral coastlines, in particular the islands of Hilbre, Middle Eye and Little Eye.
She enjoys experimenting with a variety of media, processes and texture. This experimentation has recently taken her into ceramics where she has produced organic themed vessels and small sculptured forms linked to her artwork.
Having left the world of human resources behind, Gill was finally able to follow her passion for art and studied at the North Wales School of Art and Design (Glyndwr University, Wrexham) gaining a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art in 2015. She was also awarded a place on ‘Proof’ the scholarship sponsored by the Regional Print Centre, Wrexham.
Gill’s work has been selected for several exhibitions including Theatr Clwyd, Tatton Park, Y Capel Llangollen, Granary Gallery (Weston Park, Shropshire), the Shropshire Open, Grosvenor Open (Chester), Oriel Wrecsam Open, Qube Gallery (Oswestry), Bank Quay Gallery (Warrington). She regularly exhibits at local art fairs.
Working from her home studio in Broxton, near Chester, which overlooks the Dee valley towards the Clywdian Hills –great for inspiration!
