Kay Robinson BA (Hons), AFAS
Fine Art Printer-Painter
Working as a Fine Art printmaker, I have been developing a body of small scale linoprints. The basis of my work is minimalising the environment to represent the small important detail often missed. I prefer to use a reduced palette of bold colours, giving subtle suggestions and allowing the viewer to find their own viewpoint.

Frances Seba Smith

Frances Seba Smith was born in Montreal, Canada. She studied at Ecole des Beaux Arts Montreal and, after graduating, worked as a graphic designer. In 1982 she gained a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Arts from Staffordshire University. Frances has exhibited her work extensively throughout the UK and abroad. She has work in permanent collection at the Grosvenor Museum and Art Gallery, Chester; Museum of Fine Arts Malta; St. Paul Minnesota Art Museum USA; British Midland Airways Manchester; Great Universal Stores Head Office, London; Chepstow House, Manchester and Masterworks Foundation, Bermuda.

"I made these paintings from sketches and photographs taken whilst walking the dog. As walking and painting are non-verbal processes, I find the physical excercise of walking and the mental process of creativity are stimulated by the silence and the landscape. Back in my studio, the painting gradually emerges from the photos and the sketches; my imagination merges with the reality of the original scene and the work takes on a a life of its own."

Visit the new blog which shows recent small drawings :

http://juliamidgleydrawings.blogspot.com/

As a figurative artist I work predominantly on paper deriving subject matter from direct observation.

My work features in public, private, and corporate collections in the UK and abroad.

Drawing is the bedrock of my professional activity. The work reflects personal interests and events. It seeks to entertain, and intrigue, through its idiosyncrasy. Drawing informs my printmaking too, mainly etching with aquatint.

As a documentary artist I record activities as they take place and become a fly on the wall.
Reportage commissions/projects take the form of Residencies.

Working from sketch book studies and direct observation I create vibrantly coloured images combining painting and stencil-based printmaking processes. Layers of inks are applied directly to the picture surface using small hand held rollers. By wiping off areas that are not quite dry and drawing into the ink, hidden colours are revealed and the richness of the image is gradually built up. The finished pictures are usually described as print-based paintings or monoprints.

Most of my current subject matter is based on happy childhood memories of playing in the garden, walking through bluebell woods, making or buying cakes for tea, reading stories (especially the Princess and the Pea), picking and pressing flowers, pond dipping and playing with the contents of the button box.

Drawing is important to my practice, sketchbooks are always to hand for recording and documenting what I see around me.

Recent Residencies include a trip to South Africa to record a group of volunteers who were building dwellings in an orphanage and an Art in Nature residency in Wepre Park, Flintshire (2010).In May 2008 I produced a body of work in response to the history of 'The Ladies of Llangollen' at Plas Newydd. For two years (1999-2001) I worked as Artist in Residence at Chester Zoo, concentrating on the Aquarium, the Twilight Zone (bats) and the gardens.

With the support of a Lottery Project grant from the Arts Council of Wales in 2006 I was able to document the lifecycle of the silkworm through a series of drawings. An exhibition from this project has been on show at Chester Zoo and Macclesfield Silk Museum.

My work is exhibited nationally and internationally in group and solo shows.

Tracy Hill

I am a visual artist living and working in the North west of England . I currently work as a Senior Printmaking Technician and co-leader of Artlab Contemporary Print Studios at the University of Central Lancashire. My continued research into alternative acrylic based printmaking has led me to undertake research with The Bluecoat in Liverpool as well as initiating several collaborative exhibitions and research projects between other International printmaking studios.
In 2010 I completed a residency at The Centre of Contemporary Art in Preston and the resulting works were shown over a 4 week period. The Installation works from this residency were shown in the Liverpool Biennial at the Wolstenholme Creative Space, during the long night of the Museums.
During April 2011 I took part in the International residency programme at Pyramid Atlantic, Washington DC, the resulting works will be shown in Washington DC in December 2011.

I have always found drawing the human form both fascinating and challenging, and I love the medium of print because of its ability to produce multiple images.

These original prints are not reproductions of drawings or paintings... each hand made plate being inked by hand and printed separately giving variation from print to print.... making each one an original.
