All aspects of my work are influenced by plants and nature Although my work is constantly changing, the images and colours that surround me are still my inspiration.

I work in glass, textiles, and mixed media, using my love of colours to create all artwork. “nothing in nature is black and white”.

Combining different mediums together and trying to achieve something new is my challenge. Using the softness of felt, the beauty of glass and the fluidity of paint is always my pleasure.

My practice draws its inspiration from the relationship mankind has with the environment and the complete systems that we depend on. Current practice has taken me on an investigation of A Matter of Life and Death; using garden environs as test beds, I am exploring the complex systems and life cycles that occur in nature and that we as a species depend on. This has taken me into experiments with permaculture, sustainability and seed saving.

With a background in landscape design, I am also interested in how mapping and recording our environment contributes to our attitude to the environment around us. I am specifically interested in artists’ gardens as metaphors for environmental issues and the boundaries between art and horticultural worlds, with a view to exploring sensual engagement both in the act of creating and experiencing gardens.

After always having a love of making crafts I started working in silver over seven years ago. Being largely self taught I have developed my skills over that time to create beautiful pieces of jewellery in silver and in gold. I sell my work in galleries, shops, through my online shop and at designer-maker craft fairs.

Because of my love of this craft I teach jewellery making workshops to extend this craft to others. I have workshops mainly at The Potters Barn, Sandbach, Cheshire, but also at various other locations in the Northwest, South England and East Yorkshire.

I have extended my craft to include not only sales and running workshops but also to include carrying out jewellery repairs and one to one tuition. I also take commissions and welcome couples who wish to make their own wedding rings!

My work is driven by everyday life and often addresses our unacknowledged response to it. It brings attention to our sometimes hidden emotions, and actively seeks to restore balance and harmony.

Primarily, as a maker, my intention is to find and develop equilibrium within myself, through the creative process. The practice of facing dilemmas and purposefully bringing them to the fore rests on the coordination of body, mind and emotions. Slow production time, the use of hand tools, familiar methods and traditional materials, creates a space for the idea to develop. The end result becomes a coherent  expression of resolution; an harmonious dialogue between the inner and outer worlds.

A lifelong interest in the linking of personal development with creative practice was formalised by 4 years of study which led to a BA(Hons) degree in Interactive Arts from Manchester Metropolitan University.
