Colin Rose
I graduated from Liverpool Polytechnic in Graphic Design and Illustration in 1983. Initially I worked as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator in Liverpool. I moved to the Lake District in 1985 and developed an interest in fell walking, which inspired work based upon the local landscape. I later moved into using mixed media and ‘composites’ of remembered places, which led to my work becoming increasingly abstract.
My current style explores the relationship between colour, texture and pattern using acrylic, gouache and mixed media. My abstract compositions reflect a variety of influences including Picasso, Matisse and abstract expressionism.
My most recent work has started to incorporate personal graphic symbolism and lettering which references my early days as a designer.
